Reverse Pan Channel

A reverse pan channel letter sign is a type of illuminated storefront sign where the letters are made with a metal face and returns (sides), but the lighting shines backward toward the wall, creating a glowing “halo” effect around each letter instead of lighting the face directly.

These are also commonly called:

  • Halo-lit channel letters
  • Reverse-lit channel letters
  • Backlit channel letters

Reverse Pan Channel Letter Sign Explained

Each letter is built like a shallow metal box:

  • The front face is usually aluminum or stainless steel
  • The back is translucent acrylic
  • LED lights are installed inside
  • The letters are mounted slightly away from the wall using spacers/standoffs

When the LEDs turn on, the light reflects off the mounting surface behind the letters, creating a soft glow.
